Hercules BECKWITH

Your 24th great grandfather
Birth 1230 in Tamworth Castle, Yorkshire, England
Death 1285 in England
I think that I know where I will retire now... it is my families home ( LONG LONG LONG time ago!)

Tamworth Castle, a Grade I listed building,[1] is a Norman castle, located next to the River Tame, in the town of Tamworth in Staffordshire, England.

Overlooking the River Tame , the site has been fortified since Anglo-Saxon times, when Ethelfleda the Mercian Queen built a burh to defend against Danes (Vikings); it served as a residence of the Mercian kings.

The castle dates from the 11th century and was built by the Normans. It is today one of the best preserved Norman motte-and-bailey castles in Britain. Numerous additions were made to the castle over the centuries, especially in the Jacobean period. The shell keep contains a 12th century gate tower and later residential accommodation in an H plan comprising a 13th century three storey north range, and a 17th century Jacobean three storey south range linked by an oak timbered Great Hall of the 15th century[1]

Tamworth castle was home to the Marmion family, hereditary Royal Champions to the English Kings from Henry I to Edward I. In 1291 it passed by marriage to Sir Alexander Freville and in 1423 similarly passed to Thomas Ferrers of Groby.[2]

During the Civil War, when the castle's governor was Waldyve Willington,[3] the castle was captured by parliamentary forces after a brief siege. In July, 1645 the castle garrison comprised ten officers and 77 soldiers under the command of Governor Willington. A muster of the garrison on 28 May 1646 lists only 23 soldiers, "the rest of the soldiers being about fiftie are at Lichfield Leguer uppon dutie there with Lt. Ensigne, one sergeant, one corporal and one drummer" (musters SP 28/122-3).

In 1668 the castle passed to the Shirleys of Chartley. and then in 1715 to the Comptons when Elizabeth Ferrers married the 5th Earl of Northampton.[2] During the Comptons period of ownership the castle fell into disrepair but in 1751 Charlotte Compton, the grandniece of 1st Earl Ferrers married George Townshend of Raynham.[2] The Townshends took up residence and the castle was much improved by them in 1781.[2]

During most of the 19th century the castle was let out to tenants including Robert Peel and from 1869 to 1891 Thomas Cooke. On Cookes death the Marquess Townshend put the castle up for sale by auction and it was purchased by the Tamworth Corporation.[2]

The castle was also depicted in a work by the English Romantic artist J.M.W. Turner, entitled simply 'Tamworth Castle'

No blog today... Got an early start, grocery shopping, reading, Wal-Mart, then off to work...Robert is having a friend spend the night tonight... Oh joy! :/

Tomorrow night is The Hunger Games with Cara, Robert and my sister and her boyfriend... That should be fun. I hope to take My Grrrl the next day, if she wants...

I was hoping that have an easy day today, but so far there are lost of fires to pee on. I mean, take care of! LOL

So, better get back to it...

As far as my Family Tree work goes... I really want to get rid of all of my hints, but it seems to be a never ending thing... Every one person I get rid off, two more appear (Mom and Dad as it were!). I really want to see how far I can get back, and so far, I have found back to 347 A.D., so that is pretty darn far... I know that there is a new way to write A.D., but I cannot remember it right now, so there you go!

I think that I will concentrate on finding more of my Dad's cousins...See about getting in touch with them, getting more pictures, that would be awesome, but stories would be the best... So, we will see... As it is, I have almost filled up the journal that I started to keep my notes in, so I need to have a new approach when it comes to the pretty new one that My Grrrl picked out for me at Tuesday Morning! :)

Well, that will be that then. Back to work!

Blessed Be!

HAPPY SPRING!!!!

I am reading The Hunger Games, and it is TOTALLY addicting! So, there will not be much to blog about today... can't blog...reading!

Tonight is my (last) knitting group. I have had terrible turn out, and only three RSVP's all of those are to say that they are NOT coming. Even if there is a great turn out tonight, it will take something pretty amazing to get me to continue this group.... I have said that I want to cut down on my extra activities, and this is one that can be cut out easily. I can knit and crochet on my own...

Well, that is all for now, I have to take a potty break, and then get back here and finish the billing, so I can take my break break, and READ!!!!

Blessed Be!

Monday March 19th, 2012

No news today! Back to work, I have not even had a chance to open up Ancestry.com. I did mail the pictures to my cousin today. So, that is something.

Tomorrow night is my knitting class, and I swear, if no one shows up, I am canceling the rest of them!

I am reading The Hunger Games. Totally wrapped up in that book! I am about one third through it, I am sure that I will finish it by the end of the week, and be SO READY to go see the movie this weekend with my sister, her boyfriend and Cara and Robert!

I am glad to be back at work, back in the swing of things, and today has been, so far, not to bad, so yeah for that! I still wish I was at home though! I feel like I have done so much this past week, but I also feel like I have left so much undone!

I didn't hardly touch the family history stuff, so... and I had wanted to do so much!

Anyhow, off to do payroll!

Blessed Be!

Last day of vacation. I did go into work for three hours... I got billing done, and Kronos is caught up, just waiting on the providers to do their part...

We are going to my mother in laws today, maybe. The wind is terrible, and my tail light is hanging off the back of the van, not good...

Now,I am going to go freshen up, and lay down to watch a movie...roast is in the crock pot, clothes laid out for tomorrow, not much left to do...

Blessed Be!

Happy St. Patrick's day! Spent the morning running around, and now I am tired! I am going to try not to give into the tired! I need to get back on a good schedule. I go back to work Monday. I might go in tomorrow, just to get some stuff done before people know I am back. This is payroll Monday,so there is that, and then there is catch up from the week in general. I am tempted to turn my work email back on, but I will resist. I will enjoy the last hours of this vacation if it kills me! Haha, and it might!

I am trying to plan a clothing exchange, but do far, doesn't look good. Marie doesn't have any female friends, and Cara's are all flakes! I guess we will see!

That is all for now!

Blessed Be!

Today is a lazy day. I want to crochet, but I don't...I want to knit, but I don't... I want to embroider, but I don't...I think that staying in bed, and watching day time TV is what will be the reality of the day.

I go back to work on Monday... That is a reality... I have enjoyed being home, but I miss my routine, strange I know...

Blessed Be!

First periwinkle of the season! It is a happy day indeed!!!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Day two of stay-cation. Day two of Solar Oven Trials. Today we are doing taters... We will see. They have been prepped as if going to be baked in a regular oven, and then 4 of the 5 were placed in the vessel, while the last one was just placed in a tied off section of the black bag. We will see. I put them out about 3 hours ago..

Anyhow, today the kids and I went to the library again, I had more holds in... Not impressed with the first book I looked at of the two, but I did learn which of the blueberry bushes would be best in our area. I think that I would do just as well to make a list of the things that I want to learn, and look up just those things... Like, how and where to grow blue berries... How to sew a dress... I already have a idea, I think that I need a simple pattern. Heaven knows that I have the fabric. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to make more skirts, like the one that I bought at The Gas Pipe. If I made enough, I would never have to wear pants to work again. I like that idea!

I am going to look at the books that I have tomorrow, when we are waiting on Cindy at the hospital, and when we are at her house, if I have down time, that is what I will do, then I can take notes, if I find anything noteworthy, and I can return them, knowing that I tried to get something out of them...I have started a Homesteading Journal of sorts. I have writen down the solar oven trials info, and basically keeping track of what I am doing, want to do, etc. That is where I will take notes, keep articles that I find interesting, and pictures of things that I have accomplished. I took lots of pictures yesterday of the first trials...

I am not really enjoying actual reading. I have found that I like having the book, and know that I have it, but other than that, I find that I rarely read the books I get. It is good to know that, so that I can, MAYBE do something about it... LOL! I did finish my Magical Household book, enjoyed that one very much...

Well, that is it for now, it is 1:00, holy cow, where did the first half of the day go.. I think that I will get dressed, and go look around the house for places to plant the herb seeds that I got yesterday!

Blessed Be!
